It is a frightening fact that increasing numbers of people worldwide are gaining weight, worse still is the number of school-age children that are falling into the obese category. Often extreme measures are used to control this problem including surgery but others decide that dieting combined with an increase in physical activity is preferable. Another group prefers the use of weight loss drugs to aid them in losing weight so that results can be seen more quickly.
The idea behind the drugs is to quicken each person's metabolism enabling the weight to be lost much quicker. It was only after scientists discovered that these drugs had side effects and were related to heart valve disease that they were taken off the shelves. More recently, new drugs have been developed and prescribed by doctors; many of which are still waiting for FDA approval.
The chances are that if you asked enough people, someone will say they have used them and been happy with the results. The idea that a simple drug can change your body shape without the need to change the diet or sacrificing those pleasures in life can be very tempting. Even with all the testing and new techniques available for manufacturers, many side effects like nausea and diarrhoea still exist with the new generation of weight control pills which, incidentally, can still be purchased over the counter. The side effects will depend on the person taking the medicine and can be related to their lifestyle. These effects can be equally unpleasant as the side effects occurring as a result of taking weight control pills.
Many clinical tests will show that the weight loss drugs taken to reduce weight really work but this can only be done in conjunction with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan.~Despite all the bad publicity, weight loss drugs do work but they are more successful if they are used in conjunction with a low calorie diet and regular exercise, preferably using a properly worked out exercise regime.} A low calorie diet would consist of meals that contain vitamins, minerals and fibre which are all essential for good health; the best sources are fruit and vegetables.
A person can jog every morning or sign up and workout in a gym but just as a person should consult a doctor before taking medicines, a doctor should also be consulted prior to undertaking any form of exercise. The best exercise plans should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises as this helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase a person's metabolism and assist with weight loss.
