The best way to loose weight is to focus on effective and natural weight loss through a reduction in calories and increase in physical activity. Obviously this is not as easy as it seems because the number of overweight American citizens is increasing with over a third of the population affected. The conflicting aspect is that a large percentage of overweight people are desperately trying to lose those pounds whether it is because they are tired of the looks they receive or for health reasons.

What most people do not realize is keeping at the right weight is much, much easier than losing it. Subconsciously we all know that if we do not maintain a healthy food program for ourselves, we will start to add extra pounds.

It has been shown that even when overweight people enjoy eating low calorie foods, the majority become bored and end up putting the weight back on because they slip back into previous ways. Despite the momentum towards weight gain, natural weight loss methods can stop this from happening, and there are plenty of good reasons to avoid piling on excess pounds that go beyond vanity or social acceptance.

The truth is there is a huge price to pay with your health when you are overweight and in particular, clinically obese. If you think about it, losing excess weight by natural methods is the most acceptable way to get rid of those extra pounds but too many people want a ‘quick fix' system.

The correct approach for natural weight loss is to eat the right quantity of foodstuffs such as complex carbohydrates, plus foods high in carbohydrates, some protein and a low fat content. A meal such as this would be something like a baked potato (complex carbohydrate), the fiber is vegetables and protein is a lean cut of meat.

Dietary fat is a problem because it is full of calories which will be converted into body fat unlike calories that are consumed in food from other sources. Another problem is the obsession with fat free or low fat foods that food manufactures are stacking the shelves with which despite their popularity are not stopping the problem of obesity.

While completely false, the perception is that you can basically eat exactly what you want provided it is fat-free but there are still calories in the food which can easily be converted to body fat. Where this goes wrong is with overweight people who think that if it's fat free they can eat more of it instead of eating a healthy snack.

It is believed in some circles that a natural method of weight loss is to eat less but more often without actually missing meals, which can get you into bad habits. Determination, will power and belief should be aspects of your natural weight loss program if you really want to look well and be healthy.
